China To Legalize Online Gambling
China has woken-up from a deep slumber. Over the years, gambling has been prohibited in China, but maybe not anymore, since they are considering legalizing online gambling. Their market is rapidly rising to be the world's biggest online casino host. If this happens, The U.S. will probably fear that they will lose revenue.
If China becomes the world's biggest host for online casinos, there will be a conflict between them and the United States. Businesses in the United States want to make sure that their online casinos would continue to remain prosperus. There might come a time that this will be costly.
Tony Tong, C.E.O. of Pacific Net, said that the government of The People's Republic of China is reckoning to legalize gambling online. Tong added that the government is also likely to give license to companies to build in Macau. Macau is already a conventional capital casino location.
The great motivation that the government has for legalizing online gambling is the revenue. The government will take about 40 percent from the house winnings of casinos in Macau. Legalizing online gambling would have a massive impact on the government's revenue.
Right now Tong's company is booming in China. They are riding to the fast growing online gambling industry. Their plan for developing other online games, and software poker from GigaMedia, is in process right now. Like FunTown, the company's largest mahjong in China, the internet business is starting to rise.
Would you believe that players are spending more than 100 hours per week on the casino site? That is a total of 50 percent of their subscribers. Gamblers will surely acknowledge GigaMedia since this is the work force at EverestPoker. In Europe, EverestPoker is the fastest growing poker online. The company is also operating an online blog for gaming in Taiwan that is called the "Wretch".
Experts from GigaMedia say that The U.K. is expected to be the center for online gaming for all of Europe in the years to come.
But according to other experts too, China will surely be the world's biggest market for the online gaming business. The government does not want to see that $100 billion from the gambling market should go to overseas sports betting, so they are considering making all this legal before the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The $100 billion figure came from the director of the Chinese development firm "Li, Sino & Richard", that 95 percent of the $100 billion is illegal. After legalizing online gambling in China, these revenues will not go out of the country anymore. The government's desire is to develop the market legally, for online gambling.
